More Jeep-ish than Jeep-tough, this car-based crossover is built to conquer the Krispy Kreme drive-thru and little else. Base models get a 158-hp 2.0-liter four with a five-speed manual and front-wheel drive; a CVT is optional. For a tad more power, there is a 172-hp 2.4-liter with a five-speed manual and front-wheel drive. With optional all-wheel drive, choose either a six-speed automatic or a CVT. The Compass is roomy and useful within its modest limitations. It’s also uninteresting to drive.
